Quick-drying yarns in sportswear applications

I. Core materials and technological innovation

  • Iterated polyester

Through the optimization of polymerization and spinning process, low-temperature dyeing (100℃ normal pressure full-color dyeing) is achieved, with comprehensive energy saving of more than 15%, and fast-absorbing and quick-drying performance is enhanced, which is suitable for the development of high-strength sportswear.

Weak pilling and low static properties enhance the durability and wearing comfort of sportswear.

The four-groove cross-section fiber structure accelerates sweat expulsion and keeps the body surface dry and cool during exercise, which is widely used in running, cycling and other high perspiration scenarios.

Hollow structure design enhances breathability and reduces stickiness.

  • Polypropylene Fiber

Polypropylene fiber material is lightweight, moisture-conducting and quick-drying, combined with environmental protection characteristics, suitable for marathon, mountaineering and other outdoor sports equipment.

II. Key structural design for function realization

  • Double-layer composite structure

Inner hydrophobic + outer hydrophilic: such as yoga clothing using the inner layer of chemical fiber (non-absorbent) and outer cotton blend (moisture absorption and diffusion), to achieve rapid transfer of sweat.

Enhanced capillary effect: Japan's Toray FIELDSENSOR technology simulates the capillary effect of trees by arranging thick and thin yarns in layers to enhance moisture-conducting efficiency.

  • Unidirectional moisture-conducting fabrics

Cotton USA's TransDRY technology guides the directional transfer of moisture to the outer layer for evaporation through the interweaving of hydrophobic cotton yarns with hydrophilic cotton yarns, avoiding wetness on the body.

  • Microporous Films and Hollow Fibers

COOLMAX hollow structure and microporous membrane technology (e.g. waterproof and quick-drying cultural shirts) is suitable for outdoor sports to cope with changing weather, taking into account both waterproof and moisture permeability.

iii. Functional benefits in sports scenarios

  • Moisture wicking efficiency

Quick-drying yarn can transfer more than 80% of sweat within 5 minutes during strenuous exercise, and the drying speed is 50% faster than cotton fabric.

Mountaineering clothing adopts Class III quick-drying standard (core absorption height ≥110mm, evaporation rate ≥0.40g/h) to ensure dryness in extreme environments.

  • Optimization of breathability and body feel

Polyester + spandex blend (Lycra) enhances elasticity and reduces the feeling of exercise constriction while maintaining quick-drying performance.

Natural blends such as bamboo and milk silk enhance skin-friendliness, but require structural design to compensate for durability.

  • Durability and Ease of Maintenance

Iterated polyester is treated to resist pilling and maintains its quick-drying performance after 50 washes, reducing the frequency of changing sportswear.

The waterproof and breathable quick-drying fabric is machine washable, which prevents the function of outdoor equipment from deteriorating due to frequent washing. iv.

iv. Typical Application Scenarios and Products

Yoga/indoor fitness; close to the body, dry, shaping Modal fabrics, modal blends

Running/Cycling: Highly efficient sweat wicking, lightweight Coolmax four-groove yarn, ultra-fine denier polypropylene.

Mountaineering/Hiking: waterproof, breathable, extreme environment adaptable Microporous film composite fabric, TransDRY technology.

Ball sports: abrasion-resistant, anti-static, iterative polyester + polyamide blends.

V. Future Technology Trends

Intelligent moisture regulation: shape memory polyurethane automatically adjusts breathability according to temperature and humidity, realizing dynamic dryness.

Eco-friendly process: low-temperature dyeing, bio-based fibers (e.g. bamboo fibers) to reduce the carbon footprint of sportswear, in line with the needs of sustainable development.
