Who knew clothes could be made from grass? Fungus grass fiber is absolutely amazing!

As herbs break boundaries in textiles
“replacing wood with grass” is no longer a vision but a reality. Now discover juncao fiber that is reinventing the supply chain.

I.Categories of Juncao Fiber

juncao fiber

Juncao fiber is a regenerated cellulose fiber extracted from fast-growing herbaceous plants such as giant juncao, giant reed and sugarcane grass. It is mainly divided into three categories:

1.Giant Juncao Fiber

Cellulose content reaches 33.79%–56%. Featuring fast growth and high yield, the fiber is soft, breathable and naturally antibacterial. It is ideal for close-fitting apparel such as underwear, T-shirts and loungewear.

2、Giant Reed Fiber

Low lignin content delivers finer fibers with higher tensile strength. It is commonly blended with cotton and linen, widely used for high-end shirts and knitted fabrics, featuring a neat and well-structured silhouette.

3、Functional Juncao Fiber

After modification and optimization via ionic liquid and NMMO processes, differentiated functional fiber materials with antiviral, moisture-absorbing and quick-drying properties have been developed.
It achieves an anti-influenza A virus activity rate of over 99.99%, and maintains a high antibacterial rate even after 50 washes. It is widely applicable to medical supplies, maternity & infant products and sportswear fields.

II. How Does “Grass-to-Fiber” Come True

grass to fiber
1、Pulp Purification

Efficient separation of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin (the “three main components”) is achieved via low-temperature displacement cooking or bio-enzymatic hydrolysis, enabling the conversion of “grass” feedstock into pulp.

2、Fiber Spinning & Forming

The pulp is converted into fiber filaments via the viscose process, NMMO-based green solvent process, or DT solvent process.

3、Post-Treatment Optimization

The fiber’s strength, handle and functionality are improved via sequential processes including drawing, washing, drying and crimping. The full production process reduces energy consumption by 20%–30% and wastewater discharge by more than 40%, enabling true green manufacturing.

III. Applications of Juncao Fiber

Leveraging its eco-friendly properties and functional performance, Juncao fiber has entered daily life.

1、Garment industry

It is widely applied in underwear, socks and high-end fashion garments. With excellent antibacterial, deodorant, breathable and skin-friendly properties, it is highly popular in the market.

2、Home textiles field

We have launched Juncao fiber bedding series. Compared with pure cotton, it features superior air permeability, antibacterial and anti-mite functions, ideal for maternity, infant and sensitive skin groups.

3、Medical field

Juncao fiber has been trialed in products such as antibacterial masks, surgical gowns and medical bed sheets. It is biodegradable and low in pollution.

4、Maternal & Infant Sector

Infant clothing, swaddling blankets and saliva towels are made with safe and non-irritating materials, gently protecting babies’ skin.

IV. Future Trends

In the future, Juncao fiber will develop in three major directions: full-component utilization (efficient separation and full use of every ingredient of grass raw materials), functional upgrading (anti-ultraviolet, temperature-sensitive color changing, mosquito repellent and other properties), and ecological closed-loop recycling. It will gradually replace imported wood pulp to realize independent and controllable raw material supply.
