Six Major Synthetic Fiber Filaments: Polyester, Polyamide, Acrylic, Vinylon, Polypropylene & Spandex
I Polyester: Crisp and wrinkle-resistant

1、Characteristics High tensile strength, good impact resistance, heat resistance, corrosion resistance and moth resistance. this is resistant to acid but not alkali, and has excellent light fastness. and features very low moisture regain and poor dyeability. Its fabric is washable and quick-drying with excellent shape retention, possessing typical wash-and-wear properties.
2、Applications Filament: Commonly used as low elastic yarn to manufacture all kinds of textiles.
Staple fiber: Can be blended with cotton, wool, linen and other fibers. It is currently the most consumed variety among chemical fibers.
3、Dyeting It is normally dyed with disperse dyes by high-temperature and high-pressure dyeing process.
II Polyamide (Nylon): Strong and wear-resistant
- Characteristics:Polyamide (Nylon) features high tenacity and excellent abrasion resistance. It has low density, making fabrics lightweight, with superior elasticity and good fatigue resistance. It also possesses good chemical stability and is alkali-resistant but acid-intolerant.It has poor sunlight resistance; fabrics will turn yellow and lose strength after long-term sun exposure. Its moisture absorption is mediocre, yet better than acrylic and polyester.
- Applications:Filament is widely use in knitting and silk industries.Staple fiber is mostly blende with wool or wool-type chemical fibers.
- Dyeing:It is generally dye with acid dyes and can be dye under normal temperature and normal pressure.

III Acrylic: Bulky and sunlight-resistant

- Characteristics: It boasts excellent resistance to sunlight and weathering, ranking first among common textile fibers. It has low moisture absorption and poor dyeability.Pure acrylonitrile fiber features a compact internal structure and unsatisfactory wear performance. Therefore, second and third monomers are adde to optimize its properties: the second monomer improves elasticity and hand feel, while the third monomer enhances dyeing performance.
- Applications: It is mainly use for civilian textile products. It can be use for pure spinning or blende spinning to make various wool fabrics, yarns, blankets and sportswear. It is also widely applie in artificial fur, plush fabric, bulked yarn, fire hose, parasol fabric and other products.
- Dyeing: It is generally dyed with cationic dyes under normal temperature and normal pressure.
IV Vinylon: Water-soluble and moisture-absorbent
1、Characteristics Vinylon is distinguished by its excellent moisture absorption, the best among all synthetic fibers, and is known as “synthetic cotton”.Its strength is lower than polyamide and polyester. It enjoys good chemical stability, resistant to alkali but not strong acid.It has good sunlight and weather resistance. It tolerates dry heat but not moist heat and is prone to shrinkage. It has the poorest elasticity, fabrics are easy to wrinkle, with mediocre dyeability and dull color luster.
2、Applications Mostly blende with cotton, it is use to make fine cloth, poplin, corduroy, underwear, canvas, waterproof fabric, packaging materials and workwear garments.
3、Dyeing Vinylon can be dye with direct dyes, reactive dyes and disperse dyes, but it shows poor deep dyeing property.

V Polypropylene: Lightweight and warm-keeping

1、Characteristics:Polypropylene is the lightest among common chemical fibers. It is almost non-hygroscopic yet possesses good wicking capacity. It features high strength, good dimensional stability of finished fabrics, decent wear resistance and elasticity, as well as excellent chemical stability. However, it has poor thermal stability, is not resistant to sunlight, and is prone to aging and embrittlement.
2、Applications:It can be wove into socks, mosquito net fabric, wadding, thermal filling, disposable diapers and other products.Industrially, it is use for carpets, fishing nets, canvas and water hoses. In the medical field, it can replace cotton gauze to produce sanitary supplies.
3、Dyeing:Polypropylene is difficult to dye. It can be dye with disperse dyes after modification treatment.
VI Elastane: Elastic Fiber
1、Characteristics: Spandex features the best elasticity but the lowest strength and poor moisture absorption. It enjoys good light resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance and wear resistance. Spandex is a high-elasticity fiber essential for high-performance fabrics that pursue dynamic comfort and convenience.
2、Application:Taking advantage of its properties, spandex is widely use in the textile and medical fields, such as underwear, ladies’ lingerie, casual wear, sportswear, socks, pantyhose and medical bandages.
3、Dyeing: Spandex is relatively difficult to dye. At present, it can be dye with disperse dyes and acid dyes by using corresponding auxiliaries.
