Waxed Cotton Ramie Yarn for Natural-Look Fabrics
This waxed cotton ramie yarn blends 85% cotton with 15% ramie in a 32S ring-spun single yarn. Cotton gives the fabric a soft, breathable hand, while ramie adds a drier, crisper touch and a slight natural luster. Because the yarn comes on waxed cones, it runs smoothly through knitting machines. Mills use it for light to medium knitted and woven fabrics in apparel, accessories and home textiles.

Why 85% Cotton and 15% Ramie
Cotton carries the hand of the fabric. At 85%, the blend keeps a soft cotton feel and absorbs moisture well, so it suits close-to-skin tops and shirts. Pure ramie, on the other hand, feels firm and dry when worn alone against the skin. A 15% share keeps that firmness in check. It still gives the cloth more body, a natural texture and higher strength than plain cotton. With two plant fibers and no synthetics, the yarn fits natural-fiber collections. If you are comparing bast fibers, our guide explains how ramie differs from linen.
What the Wax Does on the Knitting Machine
Knitting yarn needs a smooth surface, because rough yarn wears machine parts and sheds lint, known as fly, into the knitting room. A thin layer of wax lowers friction while the yarn travels through feeders, guides and needles. The result is steadier yarn tension and less fly, as long as the machine settings suit the yarn. The wax only helps during knitting, since scouring or washing at the finishing stage takes it off the fabric.
Applications and Typical Buyers
In knitwear production, this 32S cotton specialty yarn fits T-shirts, tops and lightweight pullovers, especially for spring and summer. Other end uses include:
- Knitted apparel: casual wear and fashion knitwear
- Woven fabrics: shirting and natural-look cotton ramie fabrics
- Accessories: scarves, hats and soft textile accessories
- Home textiles: cushion covers, table textiles and light home fabrics
Buyers include knitting and weaving mills, garment factories, fabric suppliers and traders, as well as fashion and home textile brands.
Quality Checks Before Shipment
Before each shipment, we check yarn count, blend ratio, strength and surface quality against your order. Consistent yarn means fewer machine stops and fewer fabric faults later on.
Questions About This Waxed Cotton Ramie Yarn
Can I use waxed cotton ramie yarn for weaving?
Yes, for shirting and other light woven fabrics. If the yarn will go into the warp, tell us before you order. Mills size the warp before weaving, and wax can interfere with sizing. We will confirm the right cone finish with you first. Weaving yarn also tends to carry more twist than knitting yarn; our guide explains how knitting yarn and weaving yarn differ.
Will the ramie feel rough next to the skin?
Usually not at this ratio. With 85% cotton in the blend, the fabric feels soft, only slightly drier and crisper than plain cotton. For close-to-skin products, knit a swatch, wash it and check the hand, then approve bulk production.
Does fabric made with this yarn wrinkle?
Yes, more than a cotton-polyester fabric would. Cotton and ramie both have low elastic recovery, so the fabric creases like other natural-fiber cloth. Many brands keep that relaxed look on purpose. When a neater finish matters, mills add an easy-care finish at the fabric stage instead.
Can I piece-dye fabric knitted from the natural white yarn?
Yes. Cotton and ramie are both cellulose fibers, so the reactive dyes you use for cotton will color both. Ramie can take up dye slightly differently from cotton, though. Run a lab dip on the actual fabric before you approve the shade. Our article on which dye class fits which fiber compares the main options for cellulose fabrics.
How is this yarn different from VI-TEX’s other 32S cotton ramie yarns?
All three share the 85/15 blend and the 32S count. This one is the waxed, ring-spun cone yarn for knitted and woven fabric. For sock programs, compare it with our ring-spun 85/15 version for socks and knitwear. When the socks are for spring and summer and need a cleaner yarn surface, the compact-siro ramie cotton sock yarn fits better.
