OCS Organic Cotton Yarn, Compact Spun for Knitting and Weaving

This OCS organic cotton yarn is a Ne 32/1 single yarn spun from 100% certified organic cotton on our compact spinning line. Bulk shipments come with a Transaction Certificate (TC), and most of the yarn goes into babywear, underwear, T-shirts and socks.

Before twisting, the compact system uses suction air to condense the fiber bundle. Edge fibers are tucked into the yarn body instead of sticking out. You get less fuzz on the fabric face, fewer pills after washing, and a yarn that keeps its strength at full machine speed.

Pricing, Samples and Payment

Organic cotton follows the raw cotton market, and prices can shift from week to week. Count, color and order volume also affect the final figure, so each order is confirmed with a dated quote. We spin and dye in our own mill, which keeps trading markups out of the price.

Packaging and Shipping

Each cone is sealed in a plastic bag and packed in reinforced cartons. The seal keeps sea air out during ocean freight, and the cartons hold the cones in shape inside the container.

Export orders ship FOB Shanghai or Ningbo. Both ports are a few hours by truck from the Jiaxing mill.

Certification and Compliance

The cotton comes from certified organic farms that do not use GMO seed or synthetic pesticides. Our site is OCS certified, and the organic cotton is tracked through each processing step. For each bulk shipment, our certification body issues a Transaction Certificate that supports the organic content claim on your finished product.

OCS covers fiber content and chain of custody. It does not regulate dyes or processing chemicals, and we handle that part separately. Dyed lots use reactive dyes free of banned AZO amines, formaldehyde and heavy metals, a common requirement in babywear and underwear.

FAQ: OCS Compact Spun Organic Cotton Yarn

Is 40s OCS organic cotton yarn better than 32/1 for my fabric?

It comes down to fabric weight. Ne 32/1 gives single jersey and interlock enough body for T-shirts, underwear and baby rompers. Ne 40/1 knits a lighter, finer jersey for summer tees and newborn layers. We spin both counts on the same compact line. If you are between the two, knit a panel of each from sample cones and compare hand feel and drape.

Can this yarn take bio-polishing or mercerizing?

Yes. In bio-polishing, cellulase enzymes remove the fibers that stick out of the yarn surface. Compact yarn has fewer of them to begin with, which means less weight loss and less strength loss in the finished fabric. After mercerizing, the yarn shows a brighter luster and deeper dye uptake. What color fastness do the dyed lots reach?

Washing, water and dry rubbing fastness reach grade 4–5 under ISO 105 and AATCC test methods. Wet rubbing on deep navy or black is usually lower on reactive-dyed cotton. If your buyer has a strict wet rubbing target, send it with your color list and we will plan the dye recipe around it.

How do I check the TC that comes with my order?

A TC is issued after the goods ship, so give us the exact buyer name and address when you confirm the order. When the TC arrives, compare the buyer name, product description and certified net weight with your invoice and packing list. Then look up our scope certificate in the Textile Exchange certified organizations database to confirm it is valid. Should my product label use OCS or GOTS?

OCS verifies organic fiber content and chain of custody. OCS 100 covers products with at least 95% organic material, and OCS Blended covers products with at least 5%. GOTS adds chemical, wastewater and social rules for each processing stage and requires at least 70% organic fiber. Many retailers accept OCS for content claims, while some babywear and eco-label programs ask for GOTS. Check your retailer’s requirement first. This yarn ships with OCS documentation.

Why is invoiced weight based on 8.5% commercial regain?

Cotton absorbs and releases moisture with the air around it, and its weight drifts as a result. The trade settles this with a standard moisture regain of 8.5%. Our yarn is conditioned to that level and sealed before it leaves the mill. The net weight you receive after ocean freight then matches your invoice.
