Polyester Nylon Thermal Yarn for Lighter Autumn and Winter Knitwear
FINETAM is a compact-spun 50/50 polyester nylon thermal yarn for autumn and winter sweaters, knit tops and scarves. Its hand feel is soft and close to suede, while the knit stays warm and breathable. It also feels lighter on the body than many heavier thermal yarns.
For brands, wholesalers and knitting mills, FINETAM fits seasonal color programs well. A new shade can go from sampling to approval and then into bulk on one confirmed specification.
Why Blend Polyester and Nylon in a Thermal Yarn?
In this polyester nylon thermal yarn, each fiber has its own job. Nylon has the best abrasion resistance of the common textile fibers, so it helps the yarn cope with rubbing at cuffs and collars. It also adds elasticity and a smooth hand. Polyester, on the other hand, holds its shape and dries quickly after washing.
There is one catch with strong synthetic fibers, though. When a fiber end works loose and forms a pill, nylon and polyester are tough enough to hold it in place. Instead of falling away, the pill stays on the surface. For that reason, yarn structure matters more in this blend than in a blend of weaker fibers.
Compact Spinning and Pilling Control
FINETAM relies on compact spinning to keep its surface clean. An air-suction zone narrows the fiber strand just before twist goes in, which keeps most fiber ends inside the yarn. As a result, the yarn comes out cleaner and stronger than a conventional ring-spun yarn of the same count. There is less loose fiber on the surface, too, and less to tangle into pills when the fabric rubs in wear.
FINETAM has a 5A anti-pilling target. Still, pilling depends on more than the yarn, because the knit structure and the finishing change the result as well. We suggest knitting a swatch on your own machines first, since that shows how this polyester nylon thermal yarn behaves in your structure. Before you choose shades, ask for our color card; an inspection report is also available on request. When you approve the shade, we move it into bulk production. Stock colors usually ship within 1–2 days of confirmation, while custom colors and counts take 3–15 days.

If the fabric is still in development, add the end use, gauge or target fabric weight too, so we can suggest a count. FINETAM FAQ
What does the count 1/13 Nm mean for FINETAM?
It means a single-ply yarn with a metric count of 13, so one kilogram measures about 13,000 meters. In other words, FINETAM is roughly Ne 7.7 or about 690 denier, which makes it a relatively coarse yarn for cold-season knits.
How should I check the 5A anti-pilling target on my own fabric?
Knit a swatch in the final structure and gauge, then give it the same finishing as bulk. After that, test it with the method your brand already uses, such as ISO 12945-2 (Martindale) or ASTM D3512 (random tumble). Because the fabric decides the final grade, treat 5A as the yarn target and the swatch result as the figure you approve.
Can I order FINETAM in a count other than 1/13 Nm?
Yes, custom counts are available. Tell us your knitting gauge and target fabric weight, and we will then confirm a workable count and the lead time for that lot.
Is FINETAM the same yarn as the 13S fluffy nylon polyester yarn?
No. Both are 50/50 blends of nylon and polyester, but FINETAM uses compact spinning for a cleaner yarn surface. By comparison, our 13S fluffy nylon polyester yarn uses ring spinning and has a fluffier look. It also covers sewing, hand knitting and weaving, not just knitted products.
Will a reorder of a FINETAM color match my first lot?
We match every repeat order to the approved color reference and keep the confirmed specification unchanged. Even so, keep a cone or knitted swatch from the first lot. Before bulk knitting starts, compare the two under the same light source, for example D65.
