Why Ring Spinning Suits This 32S Polyester Yarn

A ring frame drafts a single roving and then twists the fibers into a compact strand. It feels softer and fuller than open-end (rotor) yarn of the same count, which tends to be bulkier and firmer. Ring yarn is also stronger than open-end yarn at the same specification, which helps it cope with knitting tension.

Compact yarn has a cleaner surface with less hairiness, but it usually costs 15–30% more than ring yarn. FAQ

How does 32S polyester yarn compare with 30S and 40S?

In the cotton count (Ne) system, a higher number means a finer yarn. 32S works out to about 166 denier. That puts it slightly finer than 30S (about 177 denier) but heavier than 40S (about 133 denier). Choose 32S when 30S feels too heavy for a light sock but 40S seems too fine for daily wear.

Does 100% polyester yarn absorb sweat?

Very little. Polyester has a moisture regain of only about 0.4%, compared to about 8.5% for cotton. Sweat stays on the fiber surface instead of soaking in, although the upside is fast drying. Need a more absorbent footbed? Plate this yarn with cotton, or use a blend such as our 32/1 60/40 cotton-polyester sock yarn.

How can I keep pilling low on polyester socks?

Polyester fibers are strong. Once a pill forms, it tends to stay on the fabric instead of breaking off. That is why pilling control starts at sampling. Keep the knit reasonably dense and don’t cut the twist too far for extra softness. Then test hand feel and pilling on the same washed sample. How can I tell that the yarn is really ring-spun?

Untwist a short length by hand. Ring-spun yarn opens up completely, and the fibers fall apart. Open-end yarn, in contrast, resists opening and shows many hooked or bent fibers. If the strand splits into two parallel strands instead, you are looking at siro-spun yarn.

Does 32S polyester yarn work for weaving?

Yes. Besides knitting, it works for general textile weaving. Weaving keeps the warp under steady tension, so strength and evenness matter more than softness there. For warp use, ask us for a sample and run a short loom trial before you place a bulk order.
