Centipede yarn is a type of fancy yarn and also falls into the category of feather yarn. That is relatively fine, generally around 10S. Its structure consists of core yarn and effect yarn, with the feather filaments arrange in a fixed direction. And production process mainly adopts knitting and velvet cutting, known as “one stitch, one cut”.

What is centipede yarn?

It consists of multiple warp and weft yarns. The adjacent two yarns are arrange very close to each other. Weft yarns between two neighboring warp yarns are cut off. As a result, and cut weft yarns on both sides of each warp yarn spread outward, resembling the feet of a centipede, hence the name centipede yarn.

Used for knitwear. The spacing between adjacent weft yarns of centipede yarn is shorter and sparser than that of feather yarn. Some styles feature extra-long weft filaments over 20mm, which are mostly used for decorative fabrics.

Centipede Yarn Forming Defects and Solutions

1、 After the past two years, high-density large-wave imitation centipede yarn, made to mimic the products of crochet machines, has emerge in the market. For this type of fancy yarn, black polyester filament is mostly used for the core yarn and binding yarn, while white acrylic staple fiber is adopted for the effect yarn. After drafting, it forms dense waves, and then becomes flat wave-shaped yarn after untwisting, whose appearance is quite similar to conventional centipede yarn.

2、Two black polyester filaments are use as the core yarn. If adopting two 110 dtex filaments, the optimal linear density of the binding yarn is 165 dtex to keep the binding yarn close in specification to the core yarn.
And two core yarns pass through two grooves on the upper front roller via the core yarn roller.
For the effect yarn undergoes large bending, the fibers are required to be soft and highly elastic. Generally, roving made of 3.23 dtex × 102 mm fiber can be fed into the machine.During production, the tension of the two core yarns must be kept equal, so that the twisting point concentrates at the vertex to form an equilateral triangle.
