SOCOOL is a cooling yarn line from VI-TEX (Vi-Tech Global). This version is a 100% nylon cooling yarn, spun from staple fiber to a standard 20/1 count. We make it for socks, sportswear, arm sleeves, base layers and lightweight knits worn close to the skin in spring and summer.
Sock and sportswear buyers usually judge it on hand feel first, then on how it runs on their knitting machines. For repeat programs, we produce bulk to the sample you approved, so later orders knit and feel like the first one.
How SOCOOL Feels and Performs in a Knit
Cool first touch. Fabric knitted with this nylon cooling yarn pulls heat away from warm skin quickly. It feels cool for the first moments of contact. The yarn sets the starting point, but knit density and finishing decide how cool the final fabric feels. Our guide explains why a higher q-max value does not always mean a cooler fabric.
Less clammy than polyester. Nylon has a standard moisture regain of about 4.5%, compared with 0.4% for polyester and 8.5% for cotton. It takes up some sweat instead of leaving it all on the surface, and it still dries faster than cotton. Socks and base layers made with it feel less sticky in wear.
Abrasion resistance where socks wear out. Nylon resists abrasion better than any other common textile fiber. In a sock, you see the difference at the heel and toe, the first places to wear through.
Steady running on the machine. We keep count and evenness within the agreed tolerance from lot to lot. The machine settings you fix during sampling carry over to bulk.

Is SOCOOL a spun yarn or a nylon filament?
SOCOOL is spun. Nylon staple fibers are twisted into yarn, which is why it carries a count (20/1) instead of a denier. Compared with smooth nylon filament, the spun yarn has a softer, fuller hand and a more matte, cotton-like surface. You can read more about how staple yarn and filament yarn change a fabric.
Should I choose 100% nylon SOCOOL or the nylon-viscose version?
Choose this 100% nylon yarn when abrasion resistance and fast drying matter most, as in sports socks and active base layers. Choose the 32S SOCOOL nylon-viscose blend when you want a softer hand and more moisture absorption for everyday summer socks. Viscose brings the absorption and softness, while nylon brings the strength.
Is 20/1 the right count for my socks?
20/1 is our standard count. For thinner socks or finer machine gauges, we can supply a finer count. For thicker or cushioned socks, a coarser one may suit better. Send your needle count and target sock weight, and we will suggest a count for the first sample.
Where does nylon cooling yarn fall short?
Nylon has three known weak points. Long sun exposure weakens it, it can distort in very hot water, and it builds static in dry conditions. Keep dyeing, boarding and washing temperatures within nylon’s range. For products that sit in direct sun for hours, such as outdoor arm sleeves, test strength and color after light exposure before you approve bulk.
Can you provide cooling test data for this nylon yarn?
Cool touch is measured on fabric, so the test is run on a knitted sample. If your customer asks for a q-max figure or a compliance document for a specific market, tell us the test standard before bulk production. We can arrange testing on request, and the report and your product claim will then refer to the same method.
