This 2/45 merino wool blend yarn adds a small share of merino to a base of polyester, acrylic and nylon. The merino gives knitwear a softer, warmer hand than an all-synthetic yarn. Because the other 94% is synthetic, the yarn stays strong and costs less than a high-wool yarn.
We compact-spin each single yarn, then ply two singles together and wind the finished yarn onto cones for machine knitting and weaving.

What Each Fiber Brings to the Blend
Merino wool (6%): its natural crimp traps warmth and adds elasticity for a fuller hand.
Acrylic (30%): brings wool-like bulk and softness while keeping the yarn light.
Nylon (20%): has the highest abrasion resistance of the common textile fibers, which helps the yarn hold up in high-wear areas.
Polyester (44%): adds strength, helps garments keep their shape and dries quickly after washing.
With merino at 6%, this is a wool-touch blend rather than a wool yarn. In other words, it brings part of the feel of wool at the price of a synthetic blend.
Why We Compact-Spin and Ply This Yarn
In compact spinning, the frame condenses the fibers before it twists them. As a result, fewer loose fibers stick out of the yarn. That gives it lower hairiness, a cleaner surface and more strength than conventional ring yarn. For knitting mills, this means less fly on the machines and clearer stitches.
Plying two singles together balances the twist and evens out thin and thick places. Because of this, the yarn feeds evenly from the cone and knits a more uniform fabric.
Your fabric result still depends on gauge, machine settings and finishing, so run a test panel before bulk production.

What does 2/45 Nm mean on this yarn?
The count follows the wool-trade format of plies/count: 2/45 means two Nm 45 singles twisted together. The finished yarn works out to about Nm 22.5, or roughly 44 tex and 400 denier. Our yarn linear density guide shows how these units convert. Note that 45S/2 in cotton count is much finer, because 45S equals about Nm 76.
How is it different from your 45S anti-pilling merino blend hosiery yarn?
Both yarns share the same four-fiber blend, but they suit different machines. Our 45S anti-pilling merino blend hosiery yarn is a fine single yarn of about Nm 76. It uses anti-pilling acrylic and targets fine-gauge socks. By comparison, this 2/45 merino wool blend yarn is more than three times heavier. That makes it a better fit for sweaters, accessories and thicker winter socks.
What if my program needs more wool than 6%?
In that case, a higher-wool yarn is the better choice. Our 50% merino wool, acrylic and nylon yarn comes in the same NM 2/45 count. That way, the yarn size stays the same while the wool content rises. It costs more, but it gives a stronger wool hand and a higher wool percentage for your label.
